1. Natural properties of copper

Copper is one of the earliest ancient metals discovered by human beings. Pure copper is light rosy colour or light red. After a copper oxide film is formed on the surface, the appearance is copper-colored. Copper has many valuable physical and chemical properties, such as its high thermal and electrical conductivity, strong chemical stability, high tensile strength, easy welding, corrosion resistance, malleable, and ductility. Pure copper can be drawn into very thin copper wires and made into very thin copper foil, which can form alloys with metals such as zinc, tin, lead, manganese, cobalt, nickel, aluminum, and iron.

3. The main use of copper

Copper is a non-ferrous metal closely related to human beings. It is widely used in electrical, light industry, machinery manufacturing, construction industry, defense industry and other fields. It is second only to aluminum in the consumption of non-ferrous metal materials in my country.

4. Electrodes for EDM

The electrode of an electric spark is like a seal. The shape of the cap on the workpiece will be determined by the shape of the seal, which is a three-dimensional shape. The shape of the copper worker is opposite to the shape on the processed workpiece. The convex surface of the copper worker is concave on the workpiece, and vice versa.

The method of using the corrosion phenomenon produced by spark discharge to do the dimension machining is called EDM. EDM is the spark discharge in a liquid medium in a lower voltage range.

Since the shape of the tool electrode can be simply copied to the workpiece, it is particularly suitable for processing workpieces with complex surface shapes, such as complex cavity mold processing. Especially with the adoption of numerical control technology, the use of simple electrodes to process parts with complex shapes has become a reality.

EDM can not only process parts with special requirements, such as thin-walled, elastic, low-rigidity, micro-holes, special-shaped small holes, deep small holes, etc., but also process small text on the mold. Since the tool electrode and the workpiece are not in direct contact during processing, therefore there is no cutting force during machining, which is suitable for processing low-rigidity workpieces and micro processing workpieces.
